Flipping marvelous - Pankcake day ~{New blog post}~

1953 Pillsbury Pancakes #003481
The more I think of pancake day - Shrove Tuesday, the more I want pancakes! This is probably the only time of year that we eat pancakes, and it's always been a dream to go to the USA and have pancakes for breakfast in an American diner.

~{Gather up your supplies}~
from wikipedia:~ Pancakes and doughnuts are associated with the day preceding Lent because they were a way to use up rich foodstuffs such as eggs, milk, and sugar, before the fasting season of the 40 days of Lent. The liturgical fasting emphasized eating plainer food and refraining from food that would give pleasure: In many cultures, this means no meat, dairy, or eggs.
How do you eat yours? your pancake traditions?

Traditionally lemon and sugar is a favourite in our house, but it was just the other day though, I was thinking about golden syrup - could almost taste it. Golden syrup is a favourite filling for myself, although I did find a unopened bottle of chocolate desert sauce/syrup in the cupboard, I will give that a whirl, and probably end up with it around my mouth lol - instant chocolate lip liner. Will you give something up for lent?
The BBC website has a fantastic selection of pancake recipes - sweet and savoury. I spy a recipe including blueberry sauce by Nigella Lawson.

Just discovered an interesting website - Essentially England - For lovers of English history and traditional English food. The site has an interesting article about the origins of the pancake race - dating back to 1445 would you believe it?. Read more.
And on that note, think I better end here - my tummy is rumbling. Have fun making pancakes tomorrow :)
