It's amazing how one scent can transport you back into the past, or a favourite memory. Has that ever happened to you before?
For myself, the sweet mint scent of a new candle in store - Peppermint Breeze transports me back to childhood memories of the seaside, rock pool exploring and finishing off the day with a treat of a mint stick of rock. 


Do you remember the rock shop in Cullercoats? Rock dummies, even plates of food: bacon, fried egg etc made of rock. Love how kitsch and quirky they were.

Following on from our Vintage Valentines post yesterday, our collection of local goodies is growing. I spotted on eBay some photo/postcards from the 1930's, love the quirkness. We have one similar card already framed above the fire place, I couldn't resist bidding on the cards to add to the collection.

Think it would be a hoot if these amusement attractions still existed - I wouldn't have been able to resist popping my head in the hole for a goofy photo - could you?. Cute keepsakes like this would be a great souvenir - do you think they should be brought back to?

Snow, snow go away, only come back Christmas day {new blog post}

The first flutters of snowflakes are always enchanting, it sets off the feeling of Christmas approaching, and time to buy presents, and a sledge. I don't think I've ever seen so many kids with sledges until this Winter. I think we have all been in the wrong business - lets all design funky wellies, and jazzy sledges.


I took this photo of Park View this evening, the ice maybe lurking, but it's lovely to see everyone's Christmas windows and lights. Lillian Bateman's traditional window is like you have just stepped into Lapland, or taken a time travel back to the day's of Dickens's with a pitch of chicness. Girls you have to check out the goodies at No Rock and Roll, loving Trina's decorations, pretty wrapped presents, tree, lights and gorgeous lingerie to boot! Just had to show this beautiful sunset photo that Trina took at Monkseaton, Langley field. I can never resist a sunset photo.

This photo is from the Francesca - who did a wonderful guest post for us about her collection of 80's inspired goodies. If you love stationery, retro toy's and have a passion for collecting be sure to check out Francesca's post. With this photo I could imagine it was taken in Edward Scissorhands garden, a blanket of pure snow, just a hint of what is lying beneath. Love that movie, and it's on this Christmas :)

This has to have been the biggest Icicle's I've seen so far this winter, suspended from a drainpipe. Can you beat this icicle photo?
On the way home, a curl of snow which had slid partially down on a roof, lurked in frozen motion. 

This guy I photographed one morning, we get a host of birds, normally large birds swooping down for the food we save, their annual birdie banquet. Selecting his breakfast, he polished it off on this crossing light. I would love to see a robin this winter to.
Well It's nearly time fro the last episode of step back in time - UK high street through the decades, have thoroughly enjoyed watching this programme. Have you been watching to? which was your favourite decade/episode?

Can you tell what is is yet? ~New blog post~

Probably not lol, but thought i'd share this snap of some work behind the scenes at Jamboree. Maybe who ever guesses right should win a prize?
I've been trying to keep Christmas decorations away until December 1st, maybe to late? what do you think?.
Since August, a plan was hatched for the Christmas window, wrapped up in the idea, and when it finally sunk in after starting the project, I have to admit what was I thinking??
Getting covered in paint, glitter etc, it is what I love best, so giving it my best shot, I carried on with the plan. Pinkies crossed the window display will pop up on Monday.

:::Welcome to our blog:::

Our first post, just wanted to say thank you for popping on to our blog.

I'll be adding more images and info, an extension of our news page, and also images/collection that inspire us in our love of design,vintage,retro and contemporary goodies.

Over the last week or so, we have been extending the shop, making way for a bigger show room to fill with furniture goodies etc. Bit, by bit we are getting their, and I'm enjoying looking for old images of the area etc to jazz up above the fire place.

Myself, and my Mam have been taking some photos of the transformation.

 Goodbye red wall, hello 60's yellow tile effect boarding.

Now that's yellow! Remember the boarding from when the shop was a bakery?.

When my Dad removed some wood from the wall frame, we discovered this old wall paper. We think it's Victorian, went through a few ideas what the pattern was, with the colour tones it reminded me of holly, but with the leaves being to big, finally thought grapes and vine leaves. 

Have you found any historical discoveries whilst renovating/decorating?

This is one of my favourite features of the shop, adore Art Nouveau, a lovely surprise to find these original hand plates on some of the doors, sadly painted over with oodles of paint over the years, so we had know choice but to paint over to.

Set to keep us warm, and you this winter. I'm tempted to toast some marsh mallows ;) who's wants to join me? Just added the fire surround today, then a lick of paint. Can't wait to hang stockings from the fire place this Christmas.

 Nearly finished, come in and have a look around.
